Sondai fort/Sondai hill is a small trek is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is one of the parts of the Matheran range of mountains, which is beautiful, but this trek/fort isn’t so popular trekking location among the treks in Karjat.

History Of Sondai Fort
Sondai name was originated from the goddess Sondai also known as Sondai Devi. There is a small temple of Sondai Devi on the top of Sondai Fort. It is more like a watchtower and less like a fort. There is no fortification but you can surely experience few water tanks available on the top. Sondai fort has strategic benefits as a watchtower due to its 360-degree view. The base village is Sondewadi which can be reached from Karjat railway station.
It is an approx. 2 hours trek to reach the pinnacle from the base village. This trek is not so difficult and a beginner can easily climb this trek. This place is really beautiful and worth visiting.
How To Reach
One can reach this location via State transportation buses or can hire an auto/cab from Karjat railway station. This place is safe and also comfortable for kids to climb this hill. There is a beautiful railing on the top which is the best place to short videos or photos. This place can be included in our traveling dairy as one of the best trek experiences.
It is best to visit this place in monsoon as this trek includes green lands and small waterfalls due to the flow of rainwater which looks very beautiful during this season. Also, it is easy to climb the peak during the monsoon due to the cool and humid climate of Karjat.
